At 11:30 a.m. on July 1, molten steel surged like a fiery dragon through the workshop of Henan Qianjin Heavy Industry Casting &Forging Co., Ltd , precisely poured into the mold for an ultra-large casting. At this moment, the company achieved a remarkable single-pour volume of 380 tons of molten steel—setting a new record in its 40-year history. With its intelligent manufacturing prowess, it presented a fervent “industrial tribute” to celebrate the 104th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.
This casting operation represents a critical phase in the production of an ultra-large casting custom-designed by Henan Qianjin Heavy Industries for China First Heavy Industries. With a gross weight nearing 300 tons, the casting demands exceptionally high standards for total molten steel volume, purity, and uniformity of pouring. The company innovatively adopted a dual-furnace smelting technology combining a refining furnace with an electric arc furnace, alongside a “three-ladle simultaneous pouring process.” By synchronizing the precise pouring of molten steel from multiple ladles, it successfully addressed the challenge of achieving uniform formation in super-large castings, enabling the efficient organization and stable pouring of 380 tons of molten steel.
“This breakthrough represents not only a quantitative increase but a qualitative leap,” The on-site technical lead explained that the company leveraged a production line comprising a 120-ton dual-station LF refining furnace and 80-ton and 30-ton electric arc furnaces. Combined with CAE simulation and finite element analysis technologies, this ensured precise control of molten steel composition and process stability. The independent testing center, equipped with direct-reading spectrometers and ultrasonic flaw detectors, provided robust support for “360° non-destructive testing,” ultimately achieving casting quality at a high domestic level.
