What causes the failure of wear-resistant cast steel parts
2022-08-25
Many users directly specify that the castings need to be wear-resistant due to work and environmental reasons when customizing cast steel parts. Manufacturers produce high-quality wear-resistant castings according to these requirements. However, over time, wear-resistant castings will also experience failure. What causes this? In fact, the main reason for the failure of wear-resistant cast steel parts is the long-term wear of the casting, which gradually wears away the wear-resistant casting until it fails.
Hardness is an important factor affecting the wear of castings. It is generally believed that the higher the hardness of the casting, the better its wear resistance. In fact, the hardness of wear-resistant cast steel parts is the hardness of their working surface after being worn, while before wear, it is the initial hardness. The cast steel manufacturer tells you that the hardness of wear-resistant cast steel parts is not necessarily better the higher it is; some cast steel parts even develop microcracks due to higher hardness.
Manufacturers have found that the failure of wear-resistant cast steel parts is caused by corrosive abrasive wear. Wear-resistant castings are used under conditions of high temperature or wet abrasive wear after processing. Because corrosion can occur under high temperature or electrochemical conditions, the wear-resistant parts suffer both abrasive wear and corrosion of the casting. Improving the corrosion resistance of wear-resistant castings is also beneficial to enhancing wear resistance. In wet corrosive abrasive wear conditions, increasing the electrode potential of the casting and reducing external corrosion also improve the wear resistance of cast steel parts.
