How Qianjin Heavy Industries Addresses Casting Defects

2020-11-12

In general, the production process of a cast steel parts manufacturer can be divided into seven stages: sand mixing process, molding process, steel liquid smelting process, pouring process, cast steel parts cleaning, cast steel parts annealing heat treatment, and cast steel parts quality acceptance standards. Each stage is significant in the entire production process of cast steel parts. Enterprises should actively supervise employees to operate according to the requirements and standards of each stage to ensure everything is flawless.
Cast steel parts are components made from cast steel. Their performance is somewhat similar to the cast iron we often see. During use, the strength of cast steel parts is higher than that of cast iron. However, some defects may occur during production. So how do large foundries inspect these defects?
  1. Cast steel parts manufacturers use welding repair methods to fix defects in cast steel parts, requiring review of the defect conditions and welding repair process specifications.
  2. For some more important castings, when removing defects by gas cutting or carbon arc gouging, necessary preheating can be performed based on the casting's chemical composition, defect size, and nature.
  3. After welding repair of cast steel part defects, the repaired area and adjacent base material must be polished, and nondestructive testing should be conducted according to the original defect quantity and location to confirm that all defects have been completely removed.
  4. For some shallow grooves or pits caused by defects that do not weaken the strength of the casting, they can be polished into smooth rounded transition surfaces.
As a cast steel parts manufacturer, we remind everyone again: during the inspection of cast steel part defects, extra attention is needed, especially for some small details that should be strictly checked.
